The Core: 15-Miles
Bike-ways and quaint neighborhoods
Head North from The Lucky Lab and cross The Earl Blumenauer Bike Bridge. Follow the bike-ways past The Rose Garden, home to The Portland Blazers, to Williams Ave, the main northbound bike corridor. The uphill is so gradual, you'll barely notice it. Cross landmark Fremont, Alberta, and Killingsworth streets, until you take a right into the peaceful Woodlawn neighborhood. Head east to the expansive Fernhill Park before heading south to the impressive homes along Alameda Ridge. Loop around diagonal Sandy Blvd to the southbound 53rd St bike-way. Pass through the neighborhoods of Rose City Park and North Tabor before turning right into Sunnyside. Wind around the dead end streets until Salmon St, with its quintessential neighborhoods, brings you back to the After-Party.
Bike Path Bonanza: 25-Miles
Fun and Funky (Note: 1.5 miles of gravel)
Start with The Core (read above) until you head west halfway up Williams Ave, into NoPo, Portland's famous "fifth quadrant." Enjoy "Robot Alley" a Star Wars-themed interactive installation. Cross eccentric Mississippi Ave, then Interstate before crossing the Going St "curly cues" to Willamette Ave. This will wind you around the "Dog Bowl" bluffs overlooking downtown Portland, then past The University of Portland, home of the national champion women's soccer team. Turn right onto The Peninsula Crossing Trail and glide down to Columbia Blvd. Ride the sidewalk path until you cross at The Water Treatment Plant. After a few leisurely turns, cross the Columbia River Slough bridge and turn right. Here the pathway is unfinished but the scenery warrants the bumpy ride; Heron Lakes Golf Courses on the left, then Portland International Raceway (PIR), with the slough on your right. Look for ducks, geese, egrets and herons. Cross under I-5 and the road is smooth sailing once again. After a couple of miles, turn right onto Vancouver. A steady climb brings you up to Woodlawn where you rejoin The Core. (read above) The last 10-miles pass through quiet neighborhoods, including the impressive Alameda Ridge, before you arrive back at the After-Party.
Scenic, Sunday Ride: 35-Miles
Epic views and open pathways
Start with The Core and The Bonanza (read above). After the University of Portland, continue straight to the bedroom of St Johns. Marvel at the towering gothic arch bridge supports that define Cathedral Park. Wind through the neighborhood continue to the abandoned-on-weekends industrial north Portland. Ride wide bike paths, or empty streets toward Kelly Point Park, the confluence of The Willamette and Columbia Rivers. Follow the road east through the car-free Smith Bybee wetlands. Head back to Marine Drive and follow theĀ waterfront paths under I-5. Follow the secret passage onto the levee and enjoy the charming marina and boathouses on the Columbia. Follow Marine Drive for one mile before turning north on 33rd. Ride past The Oregon Food Bank before a quick steep climb up past Columbia Blvd. Rejoin the other riders at Fernhill Park. (read The Core above). The last miles pass through quiet neighborhoods, including the impressive Alameda Ridge, before you arrive back at the After-Party.
